Our Ingredients List

Here at Momma’s Home, we feel strongly that everyone should know exactly what is in the products they put on their skin. We create our products with only the best ingredients and want our consumers to know why we chose each ingredient.

Essential Oils

Our essential oils are of the finest quality.  Our oils are steam distilled whenever possible.

  • Basil Essential Oil: Used mainly to scent some of our products, Basil has a sweet, spicy, fresh aroma.
  • Bergamot Essential Oil: Bergamot is a citrus scent with a fruity sweet, warm spicy floral quality.   Earl Grey tea drinkers will recognize the scent. Bergamot essential oil can act as an antiseptic. We use a Bergamot in which the bergaptene, which causes photosensitivity, has been removed.
  • Cedarwood Essential Oil: This oil, used to scent some products, has a sweet, balsamic wood scent.
  • Chamomile Essential Oil: Chamomile has a fragrance like apples and sweet straw.
  • Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil: With a warm, spicy scent, this oil is used in our shaving bar to prep the skin and hair for shaving.
  • Eucalyptus Essential Oil: Eucalyptus has an herbaceous scent with woody undertones and can help clear the sinuses as well as provide inner clarity.
  • Grapefruit Essential Oil: Not only does it smell yummy, but grapefruit essential oil can also act as a toner.
  • Lavender Essential Oil: One of the most well-known essential oils, this relaxing scent is used in many of our products.
  • Lemon Essential Oil: We use this citrusy essential oil to brighten the scent of many of our products.
  • Lemongrass Essential Oil: Lemongrass Essential Oil has an uplifting scent and astringent properties to help dry oily or greasy skin.
  • Litsea Cubeba Essential Oil: This citrusy scented oil is very similar to Lemongrass, but is slightly sweeter.
  • Mandarin Essential Oil: Mandarin has a pleasant citrus scent that is softer than many of the citrus essential oils.
  • Neroli Essential Oil: One of Momma’s favorite citrus scents, this oil is used in Momma’s Signature Rose Neroli Products.
  • Orange Essential Oil: This citrus-scented oil smells like the orange peels from which it is distilled.
  • Patchouli Essential Oil: A lovely essential oil with a distinctive earthy scent.
  • Peppermint Essential Oil: One of the most popular essential oils, its minty sweetness is easily recognizable.
  • Rose Absolute: This sweet floral essential oil comes from one of the most well-known flowers. It is used in Momma’s Signature Rose Neroli Products.
  • Rosemary Essential Oil: This oil has a very recognizable woody, herbal scent.
  • Rosewood Essential Oil: This oil has a warm, sweetly woody scent.
  • Spearmint Essential Oil: This essential oil has an easily recognizable scent that is sweeter than peppermint.
  • Sweet Orange Essential Oil: This citrus-scented oil smells like the orange peels from which it is distilled.
  • Tea Tree Essential Oil: This essential oil has a slightly medicinal scent and is believed to have antiseptic properties. It is primarily used in our acne prevention soaps.
  • Ylang Ylang Essential Oil: This essential oil has a sweet floral scent.

Carrier Oils

Our carrier oils are of the highest quality and are cold pressed whenever possible. We choose sustainably harvested, fair traded oils when available.

  • Apricot Oil: Apricot oil is very rich in Vitamin A, and helps nourish the skin by keeping it hydrated.
  • Baobab Oil: The oil obtained from Baobab seeds is rich in vitamins A, D, and E, as well as antioxidants.
  • Castor Oil: Castor oil is used in our soaps to help make large, strong bubbles.
  • Coconut Oil: Coconut oil is used in our soaps to make large, fluffy lather.
  • Golden Jojoba Oil: This oil is actually a liquid wax. It closely resembles the sebum, an oil secreted by the skin glands, and is rich in vitamin E.
  • Grapeseed Oil: Grape Seed Oil can be found in most of our serums. It contains many essential fatty acids and is easily absorbed by the skin, but does not clog pores.
  • Kalahari Melon Seed Oil: This oil is used to help moisturize skin and hair
  • Macadamia Oil: This lovely oil is used for its Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids as well as its high amount of Palmitoleic acid, which helps to soften the skin
  • Marula Oil: One of Momma’s favorite oils, this deeply penetrating oil absorbs quickly while providing wonderful moisturization.
  • Meadowfoam Seed Oil: Meadowfoam is high in skin loving fatty acids making it a wonderfully moisturizing oil.
  • Mongongo Oil: Used in smaller amounts in our products, this is a slow absorbing oil making it a wonderful protection for skin and hair.
  • Olive Oil: One of the favorite oils among soap makers, this oil makes wonderfully cleansing soap.
  • Organic Argan Nut Oil: An important oil in many of our products as it is high in vitamin E, carotenes, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids.
  • Palm Kernel Oil: Palm kernel oil is used to make our soap bars nice and hard, which increases the longevity of the bar. We use palm kernel flakes as a sustainable option to palm oil.
  • Raspberry Seed Oil: High in essential fatty acids and antioxidants, Raspberry seed oil is used in many Momma’s Home products.
  • Rosehip Oil: Rosehip Oil is extremely high in essential fatty acids helping calm and soothe dry, irritated skin.
  • Sea Buckthorn Oil: Sea Buckthorn Oil is an easily absorbed oil that is high in Vitamin E, unsaturated fatty acids and essential amino acids.
  • Sesame Seed Oil: This oil is high in Vitamins E and B, as well as providing minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus to the skin.
  • Sweet Almond Oil: This oil is rich in proteins and vitamin D and is extremely nourishing for the skin.

Other Ingredients

  • Allantoin: Our allantoin is extracted from the root of the comfrey plant, and can help soothe the skin.
  • Atlantic Sea Salt: Harvested from pure Atlantic saltwater, sea salts help calm the skin, relax the mind, and may help improve circulation.
  • Baking Soda: Baking Soda neutralizes acids and washes away oils and dirt. Its natural pH balance leaves the skin soft, silky and smooth.
  • Bentonite Clay: This is a highly adsorbent clay with a small amount of volcanic ash that gently exfoliates and cleanses the skin.
  • Charcoal: This is used in our mask to help absorb excess oil and remove impurities from the skin.
  • Cocoa Powder: Added to our soaps for color and to our mask for fun!
  • Coffee Grounds: Collected from our local coffee shop, these grounds are used to provide a nice exfoliant to our Dirty Jobs Bar.
  • Cornmeal: We use different grades of ground cornmeal, from coarse to fine, to provide different amounts of exfoliation in our soaps.
  • Dark Chocolate Powder: Only the best dark chocolate powder is used in our chocolate peppermint soap. It provides some chocolatey scent but is mostly used to give the soap its tasty color.
  • Dendritic Salt: This salt has a greater surface area than other salts which holds the essential oil better than sea salt alone.  It is also used for its non-clumping capabilities.
  • DMAE Bitartrate: Used in conjunction with allantoin, this ingredient helps to refresh and soothe the skin by focusing on free radicals.
  • Epsom Salt: A wonderfully soothing salt
  • Goat’s Milk: Goat’s Milk is added to our soaps, bath salts, and masks for a creamy texture.
  • Green Clay: This French Clay is highly adsorbent, used to clean the skin while providing a gentle exfoliation.
  • Ground Cinnamon: Used in our Shaving Bar, our ground cinnamon is used as an exfoliant to prep the skin for shaving.
  • Kaolin Clay: This Chinese white clay is wonderfully absorbent while also the most gentle of the clays in our products.
  • Lactose: Lactose is used in our masks as a skin conditioning agent. It also helps to draw moisture to the skin.
  • Lavender Distillate: Produced during the steam distillation of Lavender oil, this wonderfully scented water can be used as a body spray, a linen spray, or best of all, used with our masks.
  • Lye (Sodium Hydroxide): This is the ingredient that turns plain oils into wonderfully cleansing soap through the magic of Chemistry! (Remember – Momma is a Chemist at heart!)
  • Orange Blossom Distillate: Produced during the steam distillation of orange essential oil, this wonderfully scented water can be used as a body spray, a linen spray, or best of all, used with our masks.
  • Organic Aloe Leaf Powder: This powder is used in our Balancing Bath Soak for its healing properties. It also helps to draw moisture to the skin.
  • Organic Blue Green Algae: This is a wild harvested organic alga found in the Oregon Cascade Mountains. It is high in minerals, chlorophyll, B Vitamins, Beta-Carotene, Pro-Vitamin A, Lipids, enzymes, essential amino acids, nucleic acids, and fatty acids all of which help to rejuvenate your skin in our Clarifying Charcoal Mask.
  • Organic Kelp Powder: Sea Kelp helps to balance your skin in our Balancing Bath Soak using its high concentration of natural nutrients including vitamins A, B1, B2, C, D, and E, as well as minerals including zinc, iodine, magnesium, iron, potassium, copper and calcium.
  • Pumice: Our pumice is a finely ground volcanic rock and is used as an exfoliant.
  • Vitamin C Ester: This is a fat-soluble form of vitamin C is used in our Charcoal Clarifying Mask to help improve the appearance of the skin.
  • Water: Only water purified by reverse osmosis is used in our products.
  • Zinc Oxide: Zinc Oxide has wonderful astringent properties and is used in our Charcoal Clarifying Mask.
